Newcastle United have completed the signing of Amar Dedić from Benfica in a deal worth £29.5 million, strengthening their defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has signed a five-year contract and will wear the No. 37 shirt at St James’ Park.

Dedić, who can play at right-back and also operate on the opposite flank, is expected to provide important cover following Kieran Trippier’s departure and ongoing injury concerns in Newcastle’s defence.

The move also reunites Dedić with Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle, who previously worked with the defender at Red Bull Salzburg.

The 24-year-old could now be in contention to make his Newcastle debut against Liverpool in the Premier League opener.

For Newcastle, Dedić represents another important step in rebuilding the squad under Jaissle as the club targets a stronger campaign.
