China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Visit South Korea August 19–20

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit South Korea from August 19 to 20, marking his first official trip to the country in five years.

During the visit, Wang is expected to meet South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Foreign Minister Cho Hyun for talks on China-South Korea relations, developments on the Korean Peninsula and wider regional issues.

The visit comes at a sensitive time, following China's recent efforts to strengthen ties with North Korea. Seoul is expected to seek a more active Chinese role in promoting peace and addressing North Korea's nuclear programme.

The talks are also expected to help prepare for further high-level exchanges ahead of the APEC summit in Shenzhen in November.

For South Korea, the meeting offers an opportunity to strengthen communication with Beijing while discussing issues directly affecting security and stability in the region.
