The Federal Government says it is targeting more than 80 per cent electricity access across Nigeria within the next five years as it moves to tackle the country’s long-running power challenges.
Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe said the government also wants to close the gap between installed and available electricity generation within three years.
The plan includes strengthening major transmission corridors, improving distribution and reducing technical and commercial losses to below 17 per cent.
The government says the reforms are aimed at providing Nigerians and businesses with more reliable and affordable electricity, while supporting its broader ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.
Nigeria is also pursuing off-grid solutions such as mini-grids and solar systems to extend electricity to communities that remain underserved by the national grid.
The key challenge now is turning the government's targets into consistent electricity supply for households and businesses across the country.
