Paris Saint-Germain Retain Super Cup After Thrilling Battle in Salzburg
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Aston Villa 2-1 to retain the UEFA Super Cup, with Désiré Doué scoring the decisive second-half goal in Salzburg.
PSG took the lead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 20th minute before Aston Villa's 17-year-old striker Brian Madjo equalised just before half-time.
Madjo's goal made history as he became the youngest player to score in UEFA Super Cup history on his competitive debut for Villa.
Doué Delivers Again
Doué restored PSG's lead in the 61st minute after running onto a pass from Ousmane Dembélé and calmly finishing into the far corner.
The goal was initially ruled offside, but VAR overturned the decision after showing that Villa defender Matty Cash had kept Doué onside.
Madjo Gives Villa Hope
Despite the defeat, Madjo's performance offered plenty of encouragement to Unai Emery.
The teenager caused problems for PSG's experienced defence and could have scored more before finally finding the net with a powerful volley.
Villa also created opportunities late in the game but could not find another equaliser.
PSG Start Season With Silverware
The victory gives PSG another major trophy after their successful 2025/26 campaign and makes them the first team since Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017 to win back-to-back UEFA Super Cups.
For Villa, the defeat will hurt, but Madjo's historic debut provides a major positive as the club begins a new season.
