Tourists and residents have been forced to flee a popular Greek resort after a fast-moving wildfire swept toward the coastal village of Porto Germeno, northwest of Athens.

About 300 people were rescued by sea after the fire cut off roads and threatened homes and other buildings. More than 300 firefighters were deployed as powerful winds made the blaze difficult to contain.

The fire is part of a wider outbreak of wildfires across Greece, with several areas evacuated as authorities battle extreme heat, dry conditions and strong winds.

For tourists caught in the emergency, the priority has been finding safe shelter and getting away from the flames.

The fires have also taken a human toll, with three firefighters reported killed during the wider wildfire emergency.
