White House Sets Goal of 1,000 Launches and Re-entries a Year by 2030                         

                                                           

US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum aimed at dramatically increasing the number of commercial space launches and spacecraft re-entries in the United States.

The initiative sets a target of enabling at least 1,000 launches and re-entries annually by 2030, a major increase from the 178 launches recorded in 2025.

Faster Approvals, More Launch Sites

The memo directs federal agencies to identify additional federal land that could be used for launch and re-entry facilities while speeding up permitting and environmental reviews.

The administration also wants greater cooperation between government agencies and private companies to develop space infrastructure and improve access to wireless spectrum needed for launch operations.

Push for Moon and Mars Missions

The plan goes beyond increasing rocket launches. It also calls for NASA to support commercial transportation to the Moon, including a goal of returning US astronauts to the lunar surface by 2028.

The administration is also encouraging commercial robotic missions to Mars and exploring future commercial human missions to the planet.

Why It Matters

The policy could create more opportunities for US launch companies, satellite operators and space infrastructure businesses while strengthening America's position in the rapidly expanding commercial space industry.

However, achieving 1,000 annual launches would require significant expansion of launch facilities, airspace coordination, infrastructure and regulatory capacity.
